OW Police Try to Identify Robbers Through Surveillance Video

Just before ten on Friday night, two thieves, believed to be Belize City residents pounced on a Chinese Grocery Shop in Trial Farm, Orange Walk. While the robbers have not been detained, there is video image of the duo as they assaulted the owner of Mister Yan Supermarket. Luckily the proprietors and patrons at the store were unhurt, but were left traumatized. Duane Moody reports.

Duane Moody, Reporting

Just before ten p.m. on Friday, two robbers targeted Mister Yan Supermarket near the outskirts of Trail Farm Village in Orange Walk. As can be seen in the surveillance footage, the brazen criminals entered the store, posing as customers. One of the robbers, who carried a backpack, purchased a cigarette while the other in a white striped shirt lingered around in the store. Seconds after lighting the cigarette, robber number two retrieves a firearm from his pants, whilst the other goes behind the desk and proceeded to stuff the cash into the knapsack. He would then jump over the counter and they both fled the scene.

Insp. Nicolas Palomo, Deputy O.C., Orange Walk Police Formation

“It was a brazen robbery where two persons went in barefaced and robbed more than four thousand dollars and a cell phone. Then they made good their escape. Police responded but couldn’t find anyone. Up to this time, we are waiting for a report from the Chinese Grocer.”

While the thieves in the night wore no masks to conceal their identities, Orange Walk police needs assistance in indentifying who they are. According to Inspector Nicolas Palomo, the perpetrators are not from Orange Walk.

Insp. Nicolas Palomo

“The identity…they could be identified because they went barefaced. The surveillance camera caught the whole incident very good and the identity is shown, but we don’t know where they come from. So I ask the assistance of the media to play the footage and try find out who these persons are.”

Duane Moody

“Sir have you found that the crimes that have been happening in Orange Walk are being done by persons that are not from Orange Walk?”

Insp. Nicolas Palomo

“There has been a spike in crime here in Orange Walk and analysis shows that the crimes are being done by persons outside of the district. Persons coming from Belize City are the persons perpetrating the crimes here in Orange Walk.”

Luckily no one was injured. Duane Moody for News Five.

Also in Orange Walk, a business woman living on Dolphin Street was robbed by three men on Saturday afternoon. The men, whose faces were covered with black stockings, were also armed and robbed the woman of about four thousand six hundred dollars in cash and valuables.
