Sunrise Rotary Club Hosts International Magic Show at the Bliss

Later in the evening, five magicians from several countries will be performing magic at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts. While it is the Eleventh Edition of INTERMAGIA, it is the first time that the group is appearing in Belize. The event which is being hosted by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Belize is a fundraising effort to assist the Sebastian Cob After School Program in Belize City. President of Sunrise Rotary, Ray Hohenkirk and the magicians came to News Five’s studios today and showed us some of their tricks. Venezuelan world-renowned magician, Dania, spoke on behalf of the group.

Dania, Magician

“This is the eleventh edition of intermagia and the producer, the creator of this show is Luis Carrillas and thanks to him, we are all here. I’ve been doing magic since I was little but professionally seven years. I have been in a lot of competition. We magicians gather together in congress and all over the world. I’ve been in several Latin American competitions where I won and then in Colombia and my own country, Venezuela.”

Duane Moody

“What can people expect when they come out to show?”

“You are going to experience something amazing. Magic is about making possible the impossible. So these guys are the best magicians in their countries. We have two from Spain, one from Mexico. We are very original, we all create our own kind of magic. So you are going to see levitations, people appearing on stage; you are going to see fires and many stuff. You are going to see something impossible. So you have to come.”

Ray Hohenkirk, President, Sunrise Rotary Club

“You’ve heard the magicians and they are promising an unbelievable event which will be held on Saturday and Sunday. These magicians have had several years of experience and have traveled internationally, performing their magical act and so we are inviting everybody to come down to the bliss and experience real magic for the first time.”

Duane Moody

“This is a fundraiser for the club. Talk to us about it. What the funds will be used for?”

Ray Hohenkirk

“The funds will be used primarily for the Sebastian Cob After School Program. A gentleman and hi9s wife who were both teachers, they converted the downstairs of their home to accommodate school kids in the Fabers Road area and help with homework and use other resources to help the kids—especially those who don’t have the means at home—to help to do homework and to keep them preoccupied with their academic studies.”

Saturday’s show is already sold out and there are limited tickets for the Sunday show. Tickets are available from Rotarians for twenty dollars each.
