Belize Progressive Party, Did They Approach Usual Suspects for Membership?

Patrick Rogers

While the newly formed Belize Progressive Party officially introduced itself, as well as its eleven candidates earlier today, it is still short of twenty-one nominees for the organization to contest all thirty-one constituencies.  So, with an absence of candidates, Party Leader Patrick Rogers was asked if he has approached familiar names, including activists Giovanni Brackett and Audrey Matura-Shepherd to join the slate.  Here’s what he told the media.

Patrick Rogers, Party Leader, BPP

“Everybody reaches where we are at eena dehn own time.  Now there is a need for activism in this country which is where most of us started out, as activists.  But then you realize that at some point we have to go the other level because activism only goes so far.  So there are certain people that you called out there that I would like to think are still at the level of activists, you know.  They haven’t matured to the level of seeing the social capital they’ve built from the activism being wahn easy thing to convert to political clout.  So I’m saying every election from now until I draw my last breath Jules, as I’m sure that commitment is here from every other member at the front row and at this table, we will be on the ballot; if not ourselves, if younger lions and lionesses step up, expect to see us, these very faces that you see here.  Every time wahn election bell ring, especially at the national level, especially at the national level because only at the national level can we really implement meaningful change to this country.  So yes, we woulda love to have every one ah dehn names unnu call out there onboard with us out here today.  We had reached out to them, had the prime minister not done a wrong thing and call the elections three years and eight months early we would have had sufficient time to engage each ah dehn people you called, the ones that you hadn’t reached to as yet and see where they’re at to see if they’re willing to sit here with a labor party for this country.  If they’re of a liberal inclination then that would explain why they wouldn’t be here with us.”

As we said, the party has until October sixteenth, to complete its roster of thirty-one candidates.
