N.T.U.C.B. President Weighs in on Election Lead Up

Marvin Mora

Marvin Mora is the spokesperson of the BEWU, but he is also the President of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize.  That umbrella organization was increasingly vocal on a number of hot-button topics of late, but the dynamic certainly changes with the announcement of elections. We asked Mora for his input on the issues which could impact the general elections one way or the other.

Marvin Mora, President, N.T.U.C.B.

“In terms of what the government has been doing, I don’t think that anybody can deny the input that the government has had in developing the country from an infrastructure point of view, but in terms of the development of the people, we have seen little or no progress. I think people should be concerned really and truly with statistics – they should be requesting that the government provide them some sort of information about wealth distribution, because even though our gross domestic product may be climbing each year and we may have surpluses in our budget and in our expenditures we might see a reduction and all of these things, the reality is that what impacts a country’s peoples is really the movement of wealth, so wealth in terms of dollars and cents, in terms of resources and in terms of land…these are the things that the people should be looking forward to. But in terms of the common man out there, you and I well know that they have short term needs and these have to be met. Sometimes our people are forced to act short term and think short term and they pay in the midterm and the long term.”
