Was Devin Neal Killed Because of an Old Beef?

Devin Neal

The search for Devin Neal’s killer remains active as police officers in Roaring Creek are seeking a suspect whom they believe carried out the deadly assault near the Agripino Cawich Bridge on Monday evening.  Neal was riding his motorcycle, heading home to Valley of Peace when a lone gunman emerged from the nearby bushes and opened fire.  Thirty-one-year-old Soila Portillo, a Guatemalan national, who was traveling ahead of him on a separate motorbike, was struck once in the neck.  The initial onslaught was followed by a salvo of rounds which caught Neal to various parts of the body, including his head.  While a motive is yet to be determined, it is believed that Neal was shot and killed as a result of an old misunderstanding.  An ongoing investigation into the latest homicide in that western community is also expected to establish a connection, if any, to the recent murder of Roaring Creek businessman Russell Hyde.  Portillo, who was fortunate to have narrowly escaped grave injury, remains in critical but stable condition at the Western Regional Hospital.  According to the lead officer assigned to the case, the individual they are in pursuit of is a resident of the area.
