President Brackett Tells G.O.B. – Don’t Take Us Lightly

Geovanni Brackett

Last week, Prime Minister Dean Barrow was a tad bit condescending of COLA’s Build a Base campaign when the media asked him about it. That’s not surprising because anybody in the know…would know that any movement which doesn’t have the numbers won’t get the attention of the establishment. That’s just the way it works. But today, COLA President Geovanni Brackett told News Five that taking them lightly would be a prime ministerial folly.

Geovanni Brackett, President, COLA

“After my press conference last week Thursday Sedi Elrington was on the street. I’m not certain what he was saying to my supporters, but I know many of them were upset. That tells me that if he is getting out of his office to speak to my supporters who are also his voters, that means he is feeling the pinch. And let me tell you something…don’t take it easy because Sedi has been thrown under the bus by his very Prime Minister and the government, because the Prime Minister knows more than any other person that he cannot allow Sedi Elrington to be speaking. This issue is a very peculiar one and the government understands the sensitivity. What they need to understand also is that by ignoring it, and playing in their minds that what COLA and others and the BTV is doing doesn’t mean a thing…let me tell you that is farthest from the truth. In terms of COLA, we were supporting the squatters when we blocked the Belcan Bridge. When the bus owners burned the tires, we supported it. When the airport was shut down we supported it. We’ve also been a group of action and we have penetrated many organizations. Where organizations have failed to defend their very own people, COLA time and time again has represented those people, and we have a lot of people rank and file who are supportive of COLA. That is on the record. And I can assure you…my words that I spoke when we were outside the Radisson, when I said that we would build a campaign if they don’t listen…we’ve done so. And then we said from there that we would go nationwide, and we will go nationwide. And so I can guarantee you, Mike, that a whole lot of events and a whole lot of direct action will be taking place.”
