Children on Pickstock Learn Puppeteering

Raquel Robles Pacheco

A summer camp in the Pickstock Division taught over twenty students the art of puppeteering. The children spent a couple weeks learning how to make puppets and how to manipulate them for a show. The project was carried out in partnership with NICH/ICA, Samuel Haynes Institute and other partners. News Five stopped in at the closing today to see what the children have learnt.

Raquel Robles Pacheco, Puppeteer Teacher [Translated]

“Basically, the first week what they did was the making of the puppet; the cutting out of the parts, the sewing, putting in the eyes, the ears, the nose, sewing on the hair. And, basically, the second week what we did was working on how they would use the puppet; the movement of the hands, how they would sit and the talking like how they would talk because they wanted them to use the puppet like it was a real person speaking. They also learned how to use it in a presentation or for a show, for example how to use it in a part or for entertainment for other children. Also, they will be having another presentation at the Bliss Center next week Saturday at four p.m.  She, herself, is Payasita Raquelin. She is a clown and there will be another clown coming from Mexico Payasito Tilin. So, it won’t be only their presentation. It will be something nice to come and see.”
