How Prepared is Verdes for Champions League?

Marvin Ottley

According to Coach Marvin Ottley, the team has been preparing tediously for the past two months and has been participating in international friendly matches to prepare for the series.

Marvin Ottley, Coach/Technical Director, Verdes FC

“We have been on a rough eight weeks of work…I think many players have been through a lot of sometimes disgust because of the types of training that we have been doing, but the Champions League is a professional league atmosphere and we had to get ourselves prepared to that level. To date we have played eleven friendlies; we have played seven international friendlies and four at home and we think we have done that well. But the most important one was in Shelaho which is extremely high and that’s the atmosphere that we are going to face when we go to Queretero in Mexico. So our preparation has been very well so I believe we are quite ready for next Tuesday in regards to where we are at as a team, preparation wise. The team has new acquisition in the sense of Deon McCauley. We have Rojas Silva who is a Brazilian import…those are players the people from the media will have to look at in terms of excitement.”

“The style of Verdes makes it an exciting competitive game, but also family oriented. We are looking forward, we continue the work. Preparations have started in every sense, months now from the last tournament. We are working very closely with the Football Federation of Belize, we are working very closely with CONCACAF and I must take this opportunity to also thank our sponsors—Smart, Santander, West Line, Midas Resort and many others that you may see in the back. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are. But we want to call to the entire country, everybody on a whole…if you look at the shirts and the shirts are going like hot Johnny cakes. The theme for this game is all in. This is not a Verdes event, this is a country event and we need your support. At this juncture I must say immediately that tickets are on sale at the various outlets and we ask that you get your tickets beforehand. We have a lot of interests from over the border, Chetumal/Melchor and even locally, we have an excursion coming from Corozal, for example.”
