Restaurant Robbers Remanded for Making Off with Cash Register

Jahmy Belgrave

Eighteen-year-old Jahmy Belgrave and twenty-year-old Ernest Gladden were jointly charged with robbery when they appeared unrepresented in court today before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart.  Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery, but due to the nature of the offense they were denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September fifteenth. Magistrate Stewart explained to the two accused that while she is unable to offer them bail, they still have the option of applying for bail at the Supreme Court with the assistance of an attorney.

The two men were accused of robbing Cenie’s Restaurant on Bishop Street on Thursday of last week. Around one that afternoon, the men held up the restaurant at gunpoint and made off with a cash register valued at six hundred dollars containing almost three hundred dollars.  While police say some of the monies have since been recovered, the men have not been charged for handling stolen goods.
