Energy Workers Union Loses Trust and Confidence in Labor Commissioner

Marvin Mora

This morning, Marvin Mora, wearing his hat as President of the Belize Energy Workers Union, discussed to issue as he sat on the couch on Open Your Eyes. While disputing some of the statements made by B.E.L., Mora also said that the union had lost trust and confidence in the labor commissioner because there is a clear conflict.

Marvin Mora, President, BEWU

“The Union, the Belize Energy Workers Union, found itself in a position where it cannot go into mediation. You are aware that the Labor Commissioner is an employee of the Government of Belize? The Government of Belize is the defacto order of the company for which he works for; that puts him in a direct line of conflict of interest. So does the rest of the government, including the Minister of Labour. To further it, even more, I have heard rumors, I haven’t really verified it, but we’ve heard, that he has offered himself to run as a representative of the United Democratic Party which is in government.”

As we said, day three of the protest takes place on Wednesday also during the lunch hour. As to the size of the protest, the unions point out that not all of its members are free at the time of protest.
