Chandra Cansino Says Stakeholders Will Continue Meeting on the Way Forward

Chandra Cansino

According to chairperson, Chandra Cansino, the Board of Governors of the K.H.M.H. along with representatives of the hospital staff, will form a task force to provide government with critical information that has been requested.  Notwithstanding an end to the go-slow, Cansino told the media that she is unable to inform K.H.M.H. staff of what those forthcoming changes will entail.  Likewise, Minister Patrick Faber says that all parties will be working on a fixed timeline to resolve all issues and continue with the daily operations of the hospital.

“The staff representatives need to go back and finalize with their people what, but they promised to, they committed to resuming normal operations which would basically include the normal services that Karl Heusner gives on a daily basis, to restoring that effective immediately.”

“Okay, now obviously they gave in on that then the government’s side must have given in on something or indicated that they are inclined to give them this raise.  Was there such an undertaking?”

Chandra Cansino

“Unfortunately, people, and I guess I’m starting at this point because, to show that in most cases people are not aware of the health system and of the need for good public health and good hospital services until you really need it.  It’s not in our culture yet to have that awareness of a good health system and so the process of engaging members of the Cabinet in these meetings is very, very helpful to us because this is information that we want them to get.  We want them to have a better understanding of how Karl Heusner and the entire health system works and so they sat in the first meeting today and they will continue to sit in those meetings and they have committed in and of themselves with whatever support that they can give to the negotiating team but unfortunately I’m not at liberty to say exactly what those are at this time.”

“If I were a staff member and I were to say Mrs. Chairman dehn gwein help we or dehn noh gwein help we?  What you say?”

Chandra Cansino

“I would say that I am unable to say exactly what the conversation was at this time.  We agreed as a team that we will form groups.  The board will form a team, management will form a team and we will sit down and get the information that we have agreed to provide and we are going forward from there.”

“Is there a fixed timeframe in terms of obviously it can’t be indefinite, there has to be some timeframe to say well we’ve succeeded or we’ve failed?”

Patrick Faber, Member, Government Negotiating Team

“What I will say is that there will be a very aggressive time schedule.  I don’t think it is, I don’t want to put a time because we did not agree to a time but we will move quickly, it is a matter of urgency so we will not waste a single minute.  We will put all our efforts into resolving this matter in a manner that will be fair to all.”

This evening, K.H.M.H. sent out a statement which didn’t go into details of the meeting, but saying that services at the hospital are up and running.
