U.D.P. Boots Martinez Has Words of Wisdom for the P.U.P. Leader

Francis Fonseca

Anthony “Boots” Martinez is also offering his two cents on the Opposition party narrowing it on the leadership. Boots, who doesn’t live in Port Loyola, but Freetown, says he believes that Francis Fonseca is vulnerable in the constituency.

“I want him to be leader; for me personally, I want him to be there. In my view that is best for the party and so I prefer him to be there.”

“He could be considered vulnerable because he is the leader, he has lot of responsibilities and presumably his U.D.P. opponent, we are told, is working hard on the ground. Is this an area of focus for the U.D.P.; that you all are saying maybe we can unseat the Leader of the Opposition in Freetown?”

“Well I believe that Miss Carla Barnett… Presently I live in the Freetown constituency and on a regular basis, every evening, the kind of work I see Miss Barnett di work in Freetown, I have no doubt in my mind, based on previous election results that the Leader of the Opposition is vulnerable and the Leader of the Opposition ninety percent to me stand chance to loosing this election.”

“Well you think all thirty-one U.D.P.s will win…”

Anthony “Boots” Martinez

“No, no, no, no. I am a good U.D.P., but I am not a fanatic U.D.P.  Certain things are realistic and certain things aren’t. In my view, I’ve always maintained this; politics is about numbers. Fi we democracy says who win the most seat form government and ina everything you won’t be able to win everything. I’ve always advised the party; of thirty-one seat, you look on twenty-three, twenty-four and you spend resources—whether human, whether financial—in terms of making sure you cross the line. All yo need is sixteen person to cross the line and yo form government.”
