More Camps Scheduled for Next Week

Amy Mace

While activities like these strengthen the bond between the Ministry of Education and international organizations, Mace says that the experience for them is even more rewarding.

“I think there are a number of reasons. Number one…you may not know this but we have to apply to come. And only about twenty-five percent of the people that apply get to come. So this is an honor for us to be invited to your country and to work with your children and it is something that we all really want to do.  The children as just so wonderful and so giving and even in three days, you develop a relationship with the children. And that’s wonderful and also where we come from, our children have so much and it is such a great opportunity to interact with children who don’t have so much and really are striving to move on to the next place. And I think to me, why Belize is so perfect, is that it is small enough that we really can make a huge impact on the country. You can’t make that same level of impact in a larger country. And the support of the government is phenomenal; you have to have that support. It has to be a joint effort and a team.”

A second round of camps will be held next week.
