PM Has No Praises for Catholic Church and Father Leslie

Dean Barrow

On Tuesday night, P.U.P. Leader Francis Fonseca praised Senator Father Noel Leslie and the Roman Catholic Church. Leslie and the Church have called on the government to repeal the controversial Petrocaribe Loan Motion even though last week at the Senate, he voted in favor of the amendment. Later, Leslie explained that his vote represented the majority in the Council of Churches. But the Roman Catholic Church has now gone so far as to state that the Act is seeking to make an illegal act legal through legislation, and cannot be countenanced. Not surprisingly, the PM wasn’t as complimentary when we spoke to him today on the matter, and he certainly had no praises to offer.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Father Leslie, at the meeting I had had with the Council of Churches and the Evangelical Association, was quite clear that he—after going through with me and the others the Petrocaribe amendments—he was quite clear that he was satisfied with those amendments and that he would be happy to vote for those amendments as a matter of his own personal position and conscience. ‘Nough said, ‘nough said.”
