Roman Catholic Bishop Objects to Controversial Legislation

Noel Leslie

According to Father Leslie, he is equally obligated to support the position of his bishop, despite having voted in favor of the majority in the council.

Rev. Father Noel Leslie, Senator for the Churches

“As far as the Catholic Church is concerned the bishop, he’s not in agreement with the law totally and so he just wanted the public to know that even though the law has passed and amendments were made, that the Catholic Church is not in favor of it.  Personally for myself, going back to my original vote it was a negative vote because of the same thing and for myself I would say that it would be nice that we didn’t have the law, period.  But it’s there and so amendments were made and on behalf of the Council of Churches, but my bishop has a right to his position on the matter so I have to support what he says, you know.”
