Honduran National Arraigned on Immigration Offenses

Yony Noe Nunez

A Honduran man enjoyed a short stint of free passage in Belize before he was nabbed by immigration officials at the Novelo’s Terminal in Belize City this morning. Thirty-six-year-old Yony Noe Nunez came into Belize through the Mopan River in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Wednesday. He allegedly came into the city seeking employment Thursday morning, and that’s when he caught the eyes of vigilant immigration personnel. He appeared before Magistrate Ladonna John this afternoon and pleaded guilty to illegal entry. A non-custodial fine of one thousand dollars was imposed on him, in default six months in prison. Nunez was able to pay his fine, avoiding jail time, but a removal order has been issued, and the Immigration Department is making arrangements to send him back home.
