Honduran arrested for Cayo blackmail

Story PictureA thirty-four year old Benque Viejo woman is behind bars tonight accused of blackmailing a Cayo businessman. Maria Dominguez was arrested and charged early on Monday morning for the seldom heard of crime of blackmail. According to San Ignacio police, during the nationwide blackout last Monday night, Dominguez tried to extort money from Nelson Tillett, the proprietor of a gas station on the Bullet Tree Road. Investigations reveal that when the lights came back on around ten p.m., Tillett found a letter on his counter. When he opened it, the contents informed him that if he did not come up with ten thousand dollars, something was going to happen to his gas station. Tillett took the threat seriously and called the cops. Using handwriting analysis, the trail of ink led investigators to the doorsteps of a Honduran national who resides in the new area of Benque Viejo del Carmen, but often hangs out near the gas station and a nearby restaurant. Because blackmail is an indictable offence, to be heard in the Supreme Court, Dominguez has been remanded to Hattieville prison until her next court date on June thirtieth.
