Another Case of Police Brutality, Ibrahim Cadogan Badly Beaten

Ibrahim Cadogan

A mother says that her son, twenty-one year old Ibrahim Cadogan was brutalized whilst in police custody. Vidalia Cadogan visited News Five today to tell her story. She says police were unlawful and subjected her son, Ibrahim, to unwarranted beatings. Cadogan says that on Friday her son was in Placencia visiting relatives and while he was taking a walk in the early hours of the morning, he was approached by police who conducted a search on him. The police didn’t find anything incriminating only two hundred dollars in his wallet and he went home. But later that day when Ibrahim went to take the bus he was approached by police officers and taken to the police station for what police say was a robbery of woman, an allegation that the Cadogans deny. When he was taken to police station, Cadogan alleges that her son was beaten and had to run away from the station because he feared for his life.

“Then, thereafter, they continued to beat my son. They whap up my son on his back, on his ankle, on his buttocks. They beat him. They beat him terribly. They beat him inhumanely. They beat him like an animal. I am not pleased about. The injuries will show. I am not satisfied. His father is not satisfied. To show my dissatisfaction, I called the Placencia Police Station and I made contact with Mr Myles who is the OC and I went there to see him.  I continued to speak with Inspector Myles. Inspector Myles intimidated me; he bullied me and he tried in his utmost best so that I do not come and explain my story and tell everybody what had happened. He said he will see to it that he be charged of robbery.”

“What else did Inspector Myles say to you when you went in to talk to him about this incident?”

“Inspector Myles looked at me and said that he has never lost a case and that he has seventeen years of service and he will see to it that nothing comes out of it. He also told me that his two police men can’t even kill a fly. What I wanted to know from Inspector Myles was three things; one, why was he whipped; two, what did he do and three, where are his possessions? His cousin went to the station the day directly after what transpired and when he got there the entire floor was filled with blood and he asked what happened here? This is a ruckus and he said that Ibrahim Cadogan is a fugitive and we are going to bruk him up and we are going to get rid of him. He ran for his life. The injuries will show that they cut him on both of his ankles and sliced him on his belly, they beat him on his back with the machete and they almost chopped off his hand.”

Cadogan says that her son’s two hundred dollars also went missing when he was at the police station. According to the mother, the police have not been to show that there was a victim of robbery; so far no one has come forward to press charges or to identify her son. Cadogan says she has filed a complaint at the Internal Affairs. The Placencia police are yet to make a comment on the allegation.
