Petrocaribe Dollars Fund Collet Family Day in Corozal

Patrick Faber

There is a lot of political news tonight and we can confirm that a bye election will take place in July for the Dangriga Constituency following the resignation of area representative Ivan Ramos. We are coming to all that but we start with a story about the Petrocaribe funds; an issue that has been in the headlines for weeks. Now, tacos, Pibil, BBQ, dancing and unlimited liquor by the seaside – all expenses paid – sounds like an amazing day for sure. But we’d have to look closely at the Petrocaribe agreement with Venezuela to see where an outing like that fits into the categories of poverty alleviation or social programs. We only bring it up because according to public comments made by Minister of Education and Collet Area Representative Patrick Faber on Sunday, that’s just what he and twenty-two busloads of supporters did, and again according to him, Petrocaribe paid for it all. The comments were made on the podium at a convention for Darrell Bradley where a very cheerful Faber couldn’t stop thanking the PM and Petrocaribe for a good time.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“I want to start off this afternoon by thanking our government and thanking our Prime Minister who will be with us shortly for Petrocaribe funds. I am just back…I had to rush back cause I promised Darrel I would be back in time to speak at this convention, but my friends we were able in the Collet constituency to roll twenty-two loaded buses to Corozal Town today and we had a wonderful family day courtesy of Petrocaribe and our Prime Minister the Hon. Dean Barrow. We danced to Jorge Ernesto Babb and the Caribbean roots band. We bathe up inna di sea…you know the beautiful Corozal Bay sea weh look turquoise and milky and beautiful…we eat tacos and we eat pibil and we eat BBQ…we had a feast. But most importantly we bonded as the Collet family and we were able as well to share with the constituencies of the North….Corozal North, Corozal Bay, Corozal South-east and Corozal Southwest, and it would not have been possible if we did not have the kind of support from our Prime Minister and Party Leader, but also from the Petrocaribe funds. We made sure the buses left three o’clock and they’re on their way. So if you see some of them come in and they’re kinda tipsy they were having a fine time. But they wanted to be here and I believe some of them will still show up.”

The comments by Faber heated up the airwaves this morning, and late this evening, we were informed that at least one major sector intends to formally speak out against that particular use of Petrocaribe monies.

Anybody notice this man always high or always drunk di give speech? So much money spent that will be needed to pay back. Hope these Collet residents wake up. Seems 80 of Collect voters poor and appreciate this. He should be giving them jobs and housing rather than Tacos. SHAME

As some have commented, was the Area Rep for Collet, intoxicated? His brilliance (or lack of) was prominently displayed in this speech. Now, his children, and all our children, will be paying back for the Tacos and Beer bash in corozal!!!!
