Was Ramos Bribed by U.D.P. to Give Up Job as Dangriga Area Rep?

Dean Barrow

While Ivan Ramos was making his announcement in Dangriga, Prime Minister Dean Barrow was making it on the podium at Darrell Bradley’s endorsement convention in Belize City. That fact hasn’t escaped the PUP’s attention, and has helped to fuel their conviction that Ramos was bribed to step down. Ramos’ financial woes made centre stage when he stepped down in mid-May. Then, just last week an announcement that he had decided to accept Petrocaribe cheer, against the decree of the PUP. And now, his resignation! That’s enough for the P.U.P. to cry foul. But for the PM it’s all good because P.U.P. problems add up to U.D.P. victory for a third term.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I am here to tell you that the Hon. Ivan Ramos, the P.U.P. Area Representative for Dangriga just announced at his Fathers’ Day function sponsored by Petrocaribe that he is resigning his seat in the House, and therefore tomorrow we will formally give you the timeline for the next bi-election in the constituency of Dangriga when the United Democratic Party will blow away the new candidate of the P.U.P.  This stranglehold almost that we are developing electorally in terms of the politics of this country will strike another blow, put an exclamation point behind this unstoppable U.D.P. march to its third term. We in the U.D.P. look afta we people. The P.U.P. push out this man, then tun round when the man get support for his people still from Petrocaribe, and the Julius Espat get up deh and bad-talk di man and he wah discipline the man like the man da fu he pikni. And what you think happen earlier on when the Hon. Mahmud resign in Cayo North, paving the way for that massive U.D.P. bye-election victory? Again they noh know how fu treat dey own people. If they noh gat no heart for those that represent them, those that are their candidates, how the hell they wah gat any heart for the general people of this country.”

“What’s your reaction or your ideas on the candidacy of Frank “Pawpa” Mena once this rolls into motion?”

Dean Barrow

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Frank Pawpa Mena will win and win handsomely. For two reasons – he is an excellent candidate and the People’s United party has committed yet another terrible blunder. The way they’ve handled Hon. Ramos means that without a doubt there is going to be blowback and so both because Pawpa and the U.D.P. are strong and because their driving, the P.U.P.’s driving away of Hon. Ramos weakens the P.U.P., it strikes me that we will have another massive victory this time in Dangriga.”
