How Prepared Are the Jaguars to Face the Dominican Republic?

Jorge Nunez

Recently, a friendly international match was held between the Dominican Republic and Cayman national teams. That outing saw DR score six goals on Cayman. Now, it is known that team Belize went up against Cayman and narrowly came out on top. So is the outcome of the international match between DR and Cayman indicator of what is to happen in the upcoming qualifying match with Belize next Thursday?

Jorge Nunez, Head Coach, National ‘A’ Selection Team (translated)

“The friendly matches don’t really count that much. It helps with refining the situation with players and the system that we are using…the types of plays that we are doing and what we are doing and it helps us there with our system.”

Charlie Slusher, Assistant Coach, National ‘A’ Selection Team

“We now believe that we can now start taking the games to these teams. In the past, we would have just laid back and just defend and lay back to be slaughtered. Now we have changed that idea and getting the philosophy of the players that now we got to take it to these guys. We have to be confident enough that we can press them; we can attack them and if we need to defend, we will defend. And you will see similar ball possession like what you saw in the game that we played in Belize cause we are not changing that. We are not going back to the old style of just kicking the ball and chasing it.”

“Star striker, Deon McCauley is back on the team and ready to go out and represent. Do you think that this will change the dynamics of what we are going to see when you guys go out there against…?”

Charlie Slusher

“Definitely, the team is a better team now that Deon is here and I think maybe that is one of the reason why we are much more confident going into this game because like I said, our offense problem really and truly has been solved with just having Deon on the pitch. So that again is a big thing when it comes to helping the national team to advance. And again, with Deon, we can confidently say now we have a complete team to face Dominican Republic. I don’t like to make predictions when it comes to the score, but we are very confident that we can advance to the next round.”
