Disgraced Former VP of Guatemala Owns Assets in Belize?

There is an interesting story coming out of Guatemala where President Otto Perez Molina is under pressure to resign following major scandals of corruption that are rocking his government. But could the scandals spill into Belize? El Periodico newspaper is reporting that among a slew of assets, Guatemalan officials have seized a helicopter linked to the former vice president Roxana Baldetti, who resigned in May when the scandal began to unfold and to her private secretary Juan Carlos Monzon, who is in hiding. The helicopter has been grounded in accordance to the Money Laundering laws after suspicious financial transactions for its purchase pointed to Baldetti and Monzon. The plane is worth millions of dollars and is a BEL four-zero-seven GX Model 2012 which was found at Guatemala’s la Aurora International airport where it had been parked since April of this year. Here is where it gets interesting because according to the report, the TG-PES was acquired through a company named Opulence Limited which is registered in Belize and represented by Halifax Limited, a shell company. The paper trail connects Opulence Limited to Monzón and Baldetti and while we could not confirm the details, the newspaper says that there were twenty million US dollars in transactions by the company and that Monzon had travelled to Belize twice before. There have also been previous reports that Baldetti owns assets in Belize. When we checked official sources no one could confirm any information on Baldetti’s assets in Belize.
