San Pedro resident freed of manslaughter charge

Story PictureOn Monday we reported on a story in San Pedro Town where the manager of Conch Shell Hotel, twenty-nine year old Alejandro Uk died after getting embroiled in a fist fight with another man in the early hours of Saturday morning. Uk was recovered from a road in front of the home of Enrique Peña. Uk subsequently died at the San Pedro Polyclinic and Peña was charged with one count of Manslaughter. And in a stunning development, today Peña is a free man after the post mortem certified that Uk did not die as a result of any injury he sustained in the fight. Instead the autopsy revealed that he died from Acute Pulmonary Edema, which means he had excess fluid in his lungs. The autopsy also showed that the facial injuries Uk suffered were superficial and did not cause any internal damage. Following the results of the post mortem, the office of the D.P.P. directed San Pedro police to withdraw the charge of Manslaughter against Peña.
