Carter Convicted on GST Offences

he GST continues to penalize businesses that have not been paying their taxes.  Well known talk show host and businessman Darrell Carter was spared jail time after he picked up his seventh conviction for Non-Filing this afternoon. Initially, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of non-filing for the months of July and August 2014. But Carter soon changed his plea to guilty and asked the court for mercy saying he was not prepared for trial and he did not want to waste the court’s time but could not locate the relevant documents. But GST prosecutor, Jacqueline Meighan, asked the court not to impose the minimum fine of five hundred because Carter is a repeat offender and the GST is seeking the maximum fine. Magistrate Panton then imposed a fine of one thousand five hundred dollars for the two counts to be paid by August twentieth or in default three months imprisonment. Carter has already been fined for non filing in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and now 2014.

well clearly Mr Carter is laughing in the fact of the tax department. Five hundred compared to what he owes is clearly the less expensive option. The law needs to be changes. So unscrupulous of him but he gets away with it over and over. Fool me once….

Exactly. I’d do the same also if all I have to do is pay a fine. He should be jailed. Made several trips to Belize and saw he and crooked Troy Gabb on television with a show. Come On! Who do the two of you think you’re fooling? Darrel, you don’t know which side of the political fence you’re sitting. You’re an opportunist. Troy, you were horrible at BTL and then you got your hustle on at DFC, just like everyone else who went there, DFC is still a mess; Natalie Ewing and some managers have no clue as to what’s going on in their own office and portfolios, especially the different branches. They have absolutely no idea of how to manage , especially when it comes to staff. They give loans to anyone on word of mouth and a high percentage of them are in default. Word on the street that Thompson, Belize City’s branch manager too busy worried about his salary and his impending transfer to a post in Belmopan, as well as the cashier whom he goes to lunch with for two hours at a time and calls on her cell phone. Yet, she still doesn’t know how to write simple proper ledger nor balance her register at the end of the day but he wants to promote her and make excuses for her ineptitude. Troy, both you and Darrel THINK that you all will have an opportunity if PUP were to win. THINK AGAIN! Why hasn’t anyone sold Darrel’s buildings? He’s collecting rent from them. If he fails to declare proper income and taxes, fine him heavily and put a lean upon his building. When he doesn’t pay, sell it. You would have to get behind DFC and bank though. He owes everybody.
