“Bouncer” Gunned Down At Wake In Ladyville

Kenroy Arnold

Early on Friday morning, the body of a watchman was found at his workplace in Ladyville, Belize District. He had been strangled to death but neither family members nor the police had a motive.  Kenroy Arnold, also known as Bouncer, was at a wake for Selvin Encalada on Saturday night but unknown to him three men waited under the cover of dark. When the grievers dissipated they opened fire fatally hitting Arnold many times. The family says he had been receiving threats because he was to testify against a person who shot him on March twelfth.  The family told News Five’s Isani Cayetano that Arnold, had a change of heart since he was fearing for his life but that was a little too late.

A gathering of mourners at a residence on Saturday night in Ladyville has ended with the death of yet another individual.  Twenty-nine-year-old Kenroy Arnold was attending a wake on Perez Road when he was targeted by a trio of gunmen sometime before one a.m.  His attackers reportedly waylaid him and opened fire at the first opportunity.

Raphael Martinez, Police Press Officer

“Initial investigations revealed that Kenroy was at that residence along with a few members of that residence when somebody or reportedly three men came from behind the building and fired several shots at him causing his fatal injuries.”

‘Bouncer’, as Arnold was popularly known in that community, had been marked for death, ahead of a pending court case in which he was expected to testify.  On March twelfth, Arnold was socializing with a group of friends when they came under gunfire.  He was shot three times during that incident.  The matter was scheduled to have been heard in the coming weeks.

Voice of: Sister of Kenroy Arnold

“My brother was a victim of a shooting incident and he pressed charges on the young men them and the young men didn’t want to get time fi di charge so dehn seh dat dehn wahn kill ahn before the case come up.  Ih mi get di threat but he just, he neva fear it because he already said that he is not going to court so he neva fear it.  So he just continue just move round as normal.”

It is a compelling theory, one that Arnold’s siblings are sticking with as the only motive behind his slaying.  Police, on the other hand, despite being furnished with similar information, are yet to come up with a reason.

Raphael Martinez

“That indeed has been taken into consideration and I’ve spoken with the officer commanding Ladyville formation and he has taken that, as I mentioned, as part of his investigations that are ongoing at this present moment. So far we have not established a motive for this homicide and secondly he was the intended target.”

Voice of: Sister of Deceased

“Like but quarta to two my sista come knock pan my room door and tell me police deh out ya.  So when I come outside now, I sih police, like bout three to four police, and wah next vehicle front ah di police vehicle.  Dehn seh my bredda just get shot up, dehn shot up my bredda.  Yeah.”

Isani Cayetano

“Did you get a chance to find out where on his body he got hurt?”

Voice of: Sister of Deceased

“Ih get shot pan ih side, like unda like ya so, like pan ih side and then ih get shot side ah ih buttocks.”

In the face of constant threats, Arnold got on with his life, telling his family that he wouldn’t continue with legal action against his previous attackers.

Voice of: Sister of Deceased

“My bredda mi done tell me before [that] he mi get di threat already.  Wahn young man call ahn and tell ahn, di young man weh gaan da jail for ahn, threaten, seh dat ih wahn kill ahn, right, before di court case because di case suppose to di call up soon I guess and he mi done aware ah it already and we just tell ahn mek ih just mind ihself.”

Ironically, death would find Bouncer at a wake where he was visiting with the grieving family of Sylvin Encalada.  The elderly watchman had been strangled while he was working an overnight shift not too far away.  Arnold was paying his respect when he was ambushed and callously rubbed out. Belize does not belong to the citizens, the criminals run the country, top to bottom.

  2. CEO says:

These type of murders would cease or at lease reduced if a statements or videos given under oath would be admissible as evidence in court.

Killing the witness wouldn’t matter then because they would still have to face the music even if the witness is dead.

  3. karah codd says:

That’s right the dead should still get justice.
