Yoga Seminar Kicks Off in Belize City

A first of its kind yoga workshop will be held this coming weekend in Belize City at the Om Shanti Center for Yoga and Healing Arts on Princess Margaret Drive in Belize City. The event is for yoga enthusiasts as well as those wanting to discipline the body. Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated from India. Over the years, it is readily becoming a hobby of many Belizeans. At the workshops, yoga instructor, Jaen (Ha-in), will introduce Kundalini, a form of the art that focuses on the human energy. A certified reflexology and bio-magnetism therapist, the instructor will also teach the benefits of Kundalini, marine identification, environmental consciousness and the connections between them. In a one on one with Jaen, News Five found out about the upcoming yoga workshop.

Jaen Kundalini

“Kundalini is an energy that we all have and in a sleeping state of the being it is curled at the bottom of the spine and the purpose of kundalini yoga is to work on that energy to awaken the different centres of energy to reach our full potential because as human beings, we are infinite in our capacity, in our potential; but we might not live our lives at the full potential because of emotional situations or because of physical situation. Any blockage at any level can stop this kundalini energy to flow freely. So the main goal is to allow the energy to flow through our centres of energy so we reach our full potential so we can live the life we deserve. Perhaps at first instance, Kundalini Yoga is not something that is attractive visually because we don’t focus on the perfection of the body, of the position of the body; which is the mastery of the polarities through the physical body…find balance and the repercussion and other states of the being, kundalini is not about the; it is through this energy and on its own making this energy flow freely, the body will adjust…it is like a consequence of it. I decided to add the second component because it is merging two passions that I have; two elements that brought me a lot of health, peace, wellbeing—and one is the yoga and the other is the environment. Whenever I feel unbalanced or I don’t feel good, I go in the wild or in the sea and I just feel that draining because perhaps my being recognizes where it comes from. So it is just to bring up tools again to diminish this impact that we have and open up the consciousness of our act and then it is also to apply it in a fun way in the sea. If we don’t know about the environment, if we don’t go and see it and find an interest in it, it is hard to solve environmental problems. So I really love the sea and it is to share how to identify fish, coral. And then on the last day, on the twenty-fourth of May, we will go on a snorkel trip to Caye Caulker and you will know to identify some common fish and see it in the water and have this experience. So to bring together the yoga, the environmental consciousness and the practical component to it.”

On all days, the session goes from nine a.m. through to five p.m. and the registration cost is three hundred and fifty dollars.
