Social Media Reporters Misinterpret News Five’s Story

Alexis Rosado

On Tuesday, News Five aired an exclusive interview with Foreign Affairs Minister Wilfred Elrington during which he commented on an attempt by Guatemalan law enforcement to search the residence of Ambassador Alexis Rosado.  While we were clear in reporting that the property is purportedly linked to disgraced former Guatemalan Vice President Roxana Baldetti, who is believed to be the beneficial owner, the content of the story was widely misrepresented elsewhere in the social media.  On at least two Facebook pages, it was reported that the home of Ambassador Rosado was indeed raided by security officials, the authors going as far as stating that it was Elrington’s strong belief that the property belonged to Baldetti.  That misrepresentation has prompted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to issue a clarification.  We reiterate that the story aired on News Five did not state that the residence was raided, nor did we say that it was Elrington’s belief that the residence indeed belongs to Baldetti.

Where there is Smoke there is Fire……….the public cannot
rely on the Royal Creoles to tell us the truth. There is something
fishy about this government’s continued appeasement of
Guatemala. And now this latest development? The Belizean
Media need to dig in and investigate.
