Tracy Taegar-Panton is Officially U.D.P. Candidate for Albert Division

On Friday, the House of Culture in Belize City was the venue of the endorsement convention of Tracy Taegar-Panton. Whenever general elections are called, Panton will contest as the U.D.P. candidate in the Albert Constituency. No expense was spared for the launch which featured everything from free drinks and a live band to a Who’s Who of U.D.P. personalities. After the ceremony Panton told the media that in the Alberts, she’s the clear U.D.P. choice, even if she has had quite a long history of affiliation with the People’s United Party.

“I’m feeling very proud, very happy, very humbled. I’ve always had a desire to serve my country and this really gives me an opportunity to serve my country at the very highest level and I am looking forward to getting on the campaign and working with the people in Albert.”

“What separates you from your political opponent?”

“I think that’s clear—my proven leadership; my years of service to Belize, it is almost thirty years; my absolute passion and love for people….I think really sets me apart and my desire to serve. I’ve always had a desire to serve and I hope I can continue to serve Belize as long as I can.”

“One of the things that was spoken, when the speeches in terms of Dean barrow and Patrick Faber, was whether or not you were U.D.P. or P.U.P. in the past and now you are U.D.P. Talk to us about that because you did have some close relations in terms of Mark Espat.”

Tracy Taegar-Panton

“Yes, I did. I supported the Mark Espat candidacy in the Albert division and I supported him—not because of political party; I supported him because he was my friend—and I am sure that he will support me. And that’s what you do when you have lifelong friendships; the friendships that I have cultivated in this division from I was five years old. So for me, the P and the most important P is about people.”

“How would you respond to the criticism of you being probably unstable in terms that you are P.U.P., then U.D.P….then tomorrow then God knows what you are?”

Tracy Taegar-Panton

“I didn’t say I was un…I didn’t say I was P.U.P.  You have made that determination because I supported my friend and so you will have to live with that. I certainly have, this is the first time I have offered myself as a candidacy for any political party and I support the U.D.P. because of the vision and leadership that it brings to the table.”
