Belize City Resident Charged for OW Murder

Derrick Romero

Twenty-year-old Kashief Bevans was arraigned in the Orange Walk Magistrates Court this morning on a single count of murder.  His indictment follows the shooting death of eighteen-year-old Derrick Romero who was killed while socializing inside his yard on Wednesday morning.  Bevans, a resident of number twelve Waight Street, Belize City, appeared before Magistrate Merlene Moody where he was read the charge.  It is expected that charges will also be brought against two other men on Monday for abetment to commit murder.  According to Orange Walk police, Darren Pugh and Junior Triminio are presently in their custody and will be brought before the court at the beginning of next week.  Of note is that charges are also expected to be brought against Bevans for the March twenty-first double murders of Oscar Daniel Vasquez and Michael Usher.  Both teenagers were shot and killed in front of a home on the Palmar Boundary Road.  On Wednesday morning, shortly before midday, Romero was violently attacked inside his yard by a lone gunman who asked for him by name.  When his quarry was identified, the shooter let loose a barrage which caught Romero multiple times to various parts of the body.  Despite being rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital he would later succumb to his injuries.  As we’ve reported recently, there seems to be a spike in gang activity in Orange Walk Town.
