George Street Affiliate ‘LL’ Still Missing

Denfield Bowen Jr.

As the family of Travis Polanco grieves his death, the family of twenty-seven-year-old Denfield Bowen Junior fears the worst. Bowen Junior, known to family and friends simply as LL, has been missing since Thursday of last week when he was last seen leaving his Plues Street address in his vehicle.  It has been five days since the father of four disappeared and despite a massive search and rescue operation on Monday, there has been no sign of the George Street affiliate.  While Belize City police are treating the matter as a missing person’s report, it is strongly believed that Bowen may have met a violent end amid rumors of an internal gang strife.  As recent as last week, the Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, told the media that the murder of another George Street affiliate, Mark Medina, may have triggered the infighting. Bowen Junior’s common-law wife, Claudine Dawson, suspects foul play as a motive for his sudden departure since it is unusual for Bowen to be absent for an extended period.  This afternoon, we caught up with her at their residence where she explained what has transpired over the last four days.

Voice of: Claudine Dawson, Common-law Wife of Denfield Bowen

“Thursday he gaan bout afta five, he mek wahn phone call ahn seh “Waddup B, you deh bout? “Now I understand that a search party was deployed into the area of Dyke, behind Fabers Road on Monday.  Talk to us [about] how that effort went.”

Voice of: Claudine Dawson

“Because I neva really gaan wid dehn but dehn gaan and dehn seh dehn check from Dyke by port areas all pan di George Price Highway, nothing.  Everybody from round ya, ih friends and ih relatives dehn gaan, nothing.  If we neva rail up bout di police dehn dehn neva gwein but di GSU dehn help and dehn gaan but still dehn no find nothing.”

“Now this has been since Thursday of last week if I’m not mistaken, what is your feeling at the moment?  Do you fear the worst?  Do you believe he’s still alive somewhere?”

Voice of: Claudine Dawson

“I fear di worst because then Denfield da no somebody weh gwein, if he even go fi wahn half an hour and we call ih phone ih wahn ansa and we call ahn, call ahn, up to todeh we di call and ih no ansa because ih da no somebody weh go from home like that.”
