Jones Says Castro is No Threat

Lloyd Jones

As we mentioned earlier, Jones is assuming the reins for the P.U.P. campaign in Belize Rural North from former standard bearer Arthur Saldivar.  His candidacy was rescinded in 2014, amid a series of scandals involving his profession as an attorney.  While Jones admits that canvassing all twenty-seven villages within the constituency will be painstaking, he affirmed his position that Castro is no threat to him.

Ret. Maj. Lloyd Jones, P.U.P. Standard Bearer, Belize Rural North

“Firstly, I am not intimidated and you are absolutely right, it is going to be a lot of work but I have every confidence in the executive committee, they have worked that division before and I intend to stand on their shoulders.”

“Do you have a specific program of work in terms of how you intend to approach all those villages, in terms of schedule-wise, because let’s say that you worked seven days a week, it becomes a little bit tedious?”

Ret. Maj. Lloyd Jones

“The program is that we work every day in the afternoon during the week and then on the weekends we hit the ground running.”

“And then the other question is, specifically you said you’d like to build on the legacy of Mr. Saldivar, no disrespect to Mr. Saldivar but perhaps there are those who would say, maybe not such a legacy to build on, but let’s be very specific.  Will you be, I’d like to say that every person who runs for politics is always good for two hundred people.  Elvin Penner in Cayo Northeast probably has two hundred people right now who would do what he asks them to do.  Will you be asking him to throw his support behind you and bring in his ultra-loyalists, I see all the people who supported him but will you be seeking his support?”

Ret. Maj. Lloyd Jones

“I think that every P.U.P. in that division is important and clearly Arthur Saldivar is a P.U.P.  He has done great work in the division narrowing that gap, I think it would be foolish of me not to extend a hand and ask him to come and assist.  I intend to do that.”
