Reymundo Reyes

We have reported on the violence in the Belize District and up north in Corozal. In the west, a domestic dispute landed a woman in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition. Shortly before three on Saturday morning, San Ignacio Police were called out to Esperanza Village about a reported attack on twenty-seven year old Shanel Robinson. Robinson, who was at the home of Ralph Mendoza Senior, was chopped multiple times by her ex-common law husband, Eugene Reneau. We spoke with San Ignacio Police about the incident and they say that Reneau will be charged.

“San Ignacio Police received information about a chopping incident in Esperanza Village. As a result, they visited the residence of one Mr. Ralph Mendoza Sr. Upon arrival they saw a female with what appeared to be chop wounds to the back of her hips to her lower instep and right foot. Because she was bleeding profusely, she was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital and then to the K.H.M.H. At the same time, with the assistance of villagers, one Eugene Reneau the ex common law husband of Ms Robinson was captured and detained. Police also noticed that he appeared to have injuries on his face and he was also transported to the San Ignacio Hospital and later K.H.M.H.”

“Are you able to say if this chopping domestic is as a result of a domestic dispute; would you say?”

Via Phone: Inspector Reymundo Reyes

“Apparently. San Ignacio Police made to understand that in the night, Ms Robinson and Mr Reneau were having a conversation outside of the house of Mr Mendoza. After she went inside the house, that is when Mr Reneau started to call her to open the door and she refused and that is when he went to the back door of the house and inflicted the wounds on Ms Robinson.”

“Okay. Mr. Reneau will be charged in connection with this incident, correct?”

Via Phone: Inspector Reymundo Reyes

“Yes. At this moment we understand that he has been discharged from the K.H.M.H. and we are just waiting for him to be transported to San Ignacio for questioning and I charges, I believe, will be laid for attempt murder.”
