F.F.B. Installs New Financial Management Team

Ruperto Vicente

As we reported on Monday, the Football Federation of Belize met in congress over the weekend to discuss a number of issues, including preparations for round two of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.  While the agenda did not include the fate of beleaguered vice president Rawell Pelayo, the question of the financial documents he had in his possession at the time of his arrest in 2013 was brought up by the media.  F.F.B. President, Ruperto Vicente, says a new management team has been installed to produce a proper financial report.

“Because the federation is changing the way it does business, we now have a management team and we have a financial director in place and that person now has been tasked with producing that financial statement or that financial report that is going to be given to the public.”

“You came in on a platform that we’d say of accountability and the previous president in your place faced a lot criticism about not being accountable.  Do you feel that you have practically let down a lot of people…”

“The idea that we could not produce an audit is untrue.  We did produce an audit but we had difficulty justifying a lot of the stuff for our audit.  So now our professional people in place are now going to produce that statement, that financial report.”

It is expected that Pelayo will tender his resignation from the post of second vice president in the days ahead.
