PM Barrow Travels to Summit of the Americas

The Summit of the Americas takes place this week on Friday and Saturday in Panama City, under the “Prosperity with Equity: The Challenge of Cooperation in the Americas.” The event takes place every three years but this summit is likely to turn out interesting because Cuba’s Raul Castro is being invited for the first time to attend. In 2012 in Colombia, Latin American and the Caribbean voted to invite Cuba with the exception of the U.S. and Canada. The buzz is that U.S. President Barack Obama will be sitting around the table with Raul Castro.  Locally, it was announced that Prime Minister Dean Barrow left today for Panama and will be joined by Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington, who is in Jamaica where Obama is making a first stop before heading to Panama. On Thursday, the Prime Minister will be making a presentation to the Second C.E.O. Summit under the theme “Bridging the Americas: Productive Integration for Inclusive Development.” Prior to the summit, Barrow will be participating in a SICA-US Summit.
