What Does Easter Mean to You?

Leroy Flowers

The mass migration to coastal and inland communities across the country has begun.  Belizeans and visitors alike have all joined the exodus to Caye Caulker, San Pedro and Placencia where the weekend promises fun-filled activities for friends and family.  But while the extended weekend is much anticipated for secular reasons, Easter is a sacred time of year.  Earlier today, we caught up with Canon Leroy Flowers who explained the significance of Easter.

“I want to remind all Belizeans that it is a time to give thanks for life, for joy, for peace, for hope.  That is the real meaning of Easter whereby Jesus did not only die but he rose triumphantly, giving us the true meaning of life which is to be valued to be important, to know that we need to cherish each other.  To know that we must celebrate and so I trust that in the mix of the celebration we will understand why we are celebrating and that we have this hope, this life and this peace which is ours because of Christ.”

“In terms of some of the events taking place within the various denominations over this weekend, what can you share with us?”

Canon Leroy Flowers

“Well, all Christian churches will be having a number of activities beginning from tomorrow Mourning Thursday or Commandment Thursday, whereby the main line churches will be celebrating the fact that Christ instituted Holy Communion.  It was the Passover celebration of the Jews that Jesus turned it into a new meaning whereby he has given us himself and so we will celebrate.  And then there is Good Friday where we think of his mock trial and it is interesting to note that even though the judge said that he was not guilty, he still condemned him to death and therefore that has a significant meaning to all of us, that he paid the ultimate price with his very life.  And then of course, Good Friday means that we have Stations of the Cross in various parts of the city, in various congregations where we depict the fifteen stations that Christ, beginning from his trial with the washing of the hands until we get to the empty tomb.  Because they have now added the empty tomb as the symbolical act that it did not only happen at the cross but it happened at the empty tomb.  And so that is the fifteenth station that is sometimes added happen this weekend.”

Absolutely nothing. Rabbits don’t lay eggs and the so-called resurrection is a fake from Friday 3 pm to Saturday 12:00 pm is not three days as stated by most so-called Christians who believe that Christ rose from the grave in three days. They are either naïve or plainly stupid. You can count backwards or however you want to, this does not add up to three days.
