Elections and Boundaries Releases Official Results for Municipal Elections

Darrell Bradley

The Elections and Boundaries Commission has finally posted the results of Wednesday’s municipal elections. The official tally of certain candidates appearing on their website is, however, different from those officially announced on Wednesday night.  We have not had time to comb through the figures but we have spotted a major difference in the final results for two Belize City Councillors. Initially, it was reported that Philip Willoughby had received the highest number of votes in the U.D.P. team, as much as a thousand and seventy-two votes more than Mayor Bradley. But the results now show that Willoughby received eleven thousand four hundred and thirty-one votes. Councillor Dion Leslie received eleven thousand eight hundred and sixty votes, topping the votes for councillors and the mayor by thirty votes. Likewise on the P.U.P. side, while it was officially reported that Lennox “Tambran” Young had topped the votes with eight thousand plus, a revision has been made which shows he received seven thousand three hundred and ninety-four votes. The revised figure now shows that Sharett Yearwood topped the P.U.P. Councillor votes with seven thousand six hundred and thirty-three votes. We’ll have more on this later on.
