Harvest Caye Development on Track for 2015 Tourism High Season

Valdemar Andrade

The controversy may have died down, but Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship port on Harvest Caye in southern Belize is well underway. According to Director of Cruise and Regional Operations, Valdemar Andrade, the multimillion dollar docking facility should be ready for the start of the high season in October 2015. Government gave the green light to NCL even though the National Tourism Master Plan calls for only pocket tourism in the peninsula. Andrade told News Five that one of the spinoffs is job creation.

Valdemar Andrade, Director of Cruise & Regional Operations, B.T.B.

“As far as I know from the last visit that I did to Harvest Caye and the southern port, it is on schedule as far as I know and basically what we will have there is a shift of NCL Cruise Line going to the south. But what we will have now is that it will open up the summer months. So they will be putting in ships in the summer months in that area.  With the cruise port coming up in the south as well, we want to be at that level of offering. We are growing the tour offers and the tour destinations exponentially every year and we want to be able to ensure that people have a safe experience, a good experience. We want people to know that Belize is a marquee tour destination, so you come to Belize to do tours and so this is what H2O Tierra does best and what other operators in Belize do best. And so Belize as a country, as a destination has that to offer to any cruise tourist or any tourist on a whole that comes to Belize.”
