Deputy Party Leader says the P.U.P. is looking great in Belmopan

Julius Espat

The political race in Belmopan is seeing the endorsement of mayoral candidates by powerhouses from both major parties.  The U.D.P.’s Khalid Belisle, as we mentioned, is supported by area representative John Saldivar and Jose Chacon is backed by P.U.P. Deputy Leader Julius Espat.  While campaign finances are another matter entirely, Espat told News Five that they are doing their best with limited resources and that the P.U.P. Seven is a determined team of candidates that is also being endorsed by elders in the party.  The strategy, he says, has been rolled out for the upcoming municipals.

Julius Espat, Deputy Leader, P.U.P.

“All elections are important and so we take all elections as serious and critical.  This is not, this is like a battle for us, it’s not the war.  So we want to be able to do well in it and so with all the resources that we have we are working towards that.  So yes it’s important and that’s why everybody has separated and gone into different camps to be able to solidify the different teams and that’s what we are doing.”

Isani Cayetano

“Are you confident that this slate would be able to deliver Belmopan to the People’s United Party in the upcoming municipal elections?”

Julius Espat

“As far as I see they have a very good chance but that decision will be made on March fourth and Cayo South will come in to assist them also to make sure that the organization is set.  Our resources are not as much as government, that’s a known fact, so we are calculating where we will spend it and how we will spend it and where it will help us more.  But I am confident from what I have seen up to now that the team is a spirited team and the elders have come out which was something that we were waiting to see.  They have come out now and they’ve been lending us their advice which is important and so the young guys that are running they are learning more as we go along and we’re ready for March fourth and that’s the plan.”

Later on, we will have what the crowds looked like in Orange Walk, San Ignacio and San Pedro.
