Eastern Division Launches Anti-Crime Initiative

Edward Broaster

The Eastern Division of the Belize Police Department is launching yet another initiative in an effort to combat crime. A Be Loving and Cease Killing (BLACK) march will be held on the twenty-seventh of March in which the department seeks to have Belize City residents parade through gang-infested neighborhoods. The march will conclude with a rally at the Battlefield Park in downtown Belize City. Deputy Officer Commanding Eastern Division of the Police Department, Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster, spoke of the event.

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster, Deputy Officer Commanding Eastern Division

“BLACK is an acronym of Be Loving And Cease Killing. We are inviting and we are hoping and we are expecting that the entire city will be participating in this march. As a matter of fact, come next we week, we will launch a sustained campaign to ensure that just that occurs. We are inviting various groups, various organizations, schools, the entire citizenry to participate in this march. Dress in black and white, if you cannot participate in this march and if you do participate in the march, we will be indicating the T-shirts that we will be manufacturing and the organizations themselves can acquire their own T-shirts and so forth. What we will do is pass through some of the major gang areas. We are inviting some of those groups as well to participate and we will also be passing through the cemetery where we will do a minute of silence and standstill for those who have fallen to violence in this city. And then we will end up at the Battlefield Park where we will do a short rally. And we are hoping that this will enable us to galvanize the community into action in assisting in reducing the level of violence in the city. And we will be going from media house to media house to launch this campaign where we want to ensure that we get the full participation of the city as it relates to this march come the twenty-seventh of March.”
