N.T.U.C.B. Boycotts S.S.B. Meeting

The Social Security Board is tonight at odds with the N.T.U.C.B. and had to call off a scheduled meeting of the board. That’s because the directors of the N.T.U.C.B. boycotted the meeting. At the root of the problem is that the S.S.B. is not accepting the appointment of Floyd Neal from the Christian Workers Union as a director on the board. It is an issue that has been brewing since last week and it seems they are no closer to coming to a resolution. According to the S.S.B., on Monday, January nineteenth, the N.T.U.C.B. informed them that they had nominated Emily Turner and Floyd Neal as directors and Philip Tate as an alternate director to sit on the board. The following day, however, S.S.B. advised the union that Floyd Neal was unable to be a director on the Board because he serves as the General Secretary of the CWU and is currently representing employees of the S.S.B.  Long and short is that S.S.B. considers it a conflict of interest for Neal to sit on the board while negotiations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement and performance bonus are taking place. But interestingly enough, there have been cases where conflicts of interest were seemingly present. There was the case when Lois Young was chairman of both the B.T.L. and S.S.B. Boards. And Net Vasquez was chairman of B.T.L. and Chairman on S.S.B. Investment Committee. They both voted to have S.S.B. buy shares in B.T.L. after the government’s acquisition of the telephone company despite the union and business representatives voting against it. Tonight, the N.T.U.C.B. is meeting on this latest move from the S.S.B.
