Belize City Man Pleads Guilty to Dangerous Harm

Nathaniel Thomas Jr.

The trial of Nathanial Thomas Junior, who was accused of stabbing the boyfriend of his ex girlfriend, concluded today. Neighbors had to intervene to stop the domestic dispute and Thomas was charged initially with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm upon Ellis Ortiz, the new boyfriend of his ex.  Today at his indictment, Thomas Junior pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of dangerous harm before Justice Troadio Gonzalez. He accepted the facts and begged the court for mercy and for a reduction to his sentence since he has been on remand for three years.  Justice Gonzalez took into consideration that it was his first conviction and so he imposed a sentence of four years for the stabbing of Ortiz.  In January 2012, Ortiz, was stabbed with a knife multiple times to the body, while he was visiting Thomas Junior’s ex on Antelope Street.  Before sentencing, he told Judge Gonzalez that before this incident, he was not a troublemaker and that on the day of the incident, Ortiz had tantalized and provoked him to the point where he became angry.
