Jury Deliberates in Murder Trial

Warren Lewis & Cordel Flores

The trial of Warren Lewis of Lord’s Bank, Ladyville and Cordel Flores of Belize City, who are jointly charged for the August 2009 murder of Albert Allen was summed up today by Justice Troadio Gonzalez. The trial began last December and up to news time a jury remains in deliberation on the fate of the two men. During trial, evidence showed that Allen had a heinous death at the hands of his attackers, who according to police, acted in a joint enterprise. According to a caution statement by Lewis, Allen was picked up and taken to a dirt road off the George Price Highway near mile four. He was shot in the back, his throat was slit and a stick was pushed down his throat.  In the caution statement, admitted into evidence, Lewis admits that he shot Allen in the back and when he did not die, he cut his throat. Lewis then left the body by a dumpsite. This caution statement was given by Lewis on the August nineteenth, 2009, hours after he and Flores had been picked up while sitting inside Lewis’ Toyota car. Inside the car, police also found a pistol on the passenger seat. Flores was seen with blood stains on his clothes which matched Allen’s blood type. In their defense, Lewis who was represented by attorney Oscar Selgado gave a dock statement with a different version saying that after returning to his car on Central American Boulevard, he met an armed man who ordered him to drive to Faber’s Road. He claims that two others also got into the vehicle and placed what appeared to be a human body wrapped in a blue canvass into the trunk of the car.  He was then ordered to drive to the beach where the body was dumped and he drove them back to Faber’s Road where they disappeared.  It is there that he met Flores and where police detained them for the murder. Flores also gave a dock statement stating that he was not present at the time of the murder. Today in the sum up, Judge Gonzalez made it clear to the jurors that to convict the two men of the joint enterprise murder, they must be sure of their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt and that the evidence against Flores is circumstantial.

  1. Al Rich says:

Woe, the judge just primed the jury to find these two murderers not guilty. This was a heinous murder. to ram a stick down someones throat, then cut their throat not to mention shooting them. It would be a travesty of justice if these two coldblooded murderers walk.
The only consolation would be that someone takes justice on them. These two should never be let out of prison. Give them life.
