Associations Say it is a Dream Come True

Wilfredo Magaña

So where does this leave the B.S.C.F.A.? Well certainly not in a better position than they were in before negotiations. In fact, there are those who expect that the Association will not be able to recover. Of course, there are those who will blame the government and/or ASR/B.S.I., and do, for the crumbling of the B.S.C.F.A.  But United Cane Farmers Association Head Wilfredo Magana says that’s unfair. He claims that the instability of the organization didn’t just happen, and that is why he sought to cut ties in 2010, and why he is signing on with B.S.I. now as an independent association.

Wilfredo Magaña, Head, United Cane Farmers Association

“This is a dream that started way back in 2008 or maybe long before. I have been hearing that they are blaming the prime minister for dividing the association, but I think we were divided long before 2008 and that was one of the reasons why myself and four other colleagues took sugar act to the Supreme Court because it has compelled us to belong to one group; even though they were doing so bad, we had to be under that group. And for some time we were kinda being discouraged, but today’s vision was what maintained us together, to be able to go there to the end. I would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to the people who make this occasion possible: B.S.I., cane farmers, the government because the government is a player in the industry and here we are.”

Elvis Canul, Interim Chair, Corozal Sugar Cane Producers Association

“We as the pioneers of this might not see it, but our children will have the opportunity to benefit from these changes that are being made today. I have been privileged to be the interim chair of the Corozal Sugar Cane Producers Association and today marks a new beginning for our farmers and we commit with them that we will be at the very most forefront for their benefit in the growth of the industry.”

  1. farmer says:

Wilfredo Magaña, Elvis Canul you all have signed the contract and will get sense out of what most farmers have been saying. you all will see how ASR/BSI/GAPI/DeanBarrow will treat unu, of course if you all belong to UDP things will be different.

  2. CEO says:

    A very myopic move!

You guys are looking for the spotlight but you will feel the heat of that same light soon.

It is obvious that you guys have no real understanding of the long term effect of your latest decision. BSI have divided the farmers and they will now conquer.
