B.S.C.F.A. Chairman on the Hot Seat

Ezequiel Cansino

That’s bad news for the Association, and there’s more. There’s allegedly a report circulating that ASR/B.S.I. is expressing some hesitation in signing with the B.S.C.F.A. branches who have expressed that they do so under protest. From what we’ve been able to ascertain, the position of signing under duress raises the possibility of future legal implications. We were unable to confirm this report with ASR/B.S.I. today, but we did get a chance to ask Alfredo Ortega this morning. He says that it’s just the factory trying to intimidate the farmers, kicking them when they’re down, so to speak.

“It’s true that some branches came out with that motion that they are signing, but they are signing under duress. It was some branches that came on board with that, but the paper that was presented to them is a complete document of the B.S.C.F.A., and what they are trying to do in that regard is to intimidate the farmers, that if you don’t sign this document, you won’t be able to deliver your cane, and that is bullshit. Why I say that is because the Act says that a farmer, once being registered by the Sugar Cane Production Committee and the season is opened, you have a right to deliver your cane…and I want to see once the gates are opened, which of those farmers that didn’t sign won’t have the opportunity to deliver their cane.”

“It’s amazing how we have ASR giving instructions to the SICB, and now we have ASR giving instructions to the B.S.C.F.A.. Mr. Cansino needs to grow some balls and take control of his organization and let them know who is the boss. He is not there…Cansino is not there representing himself. He has to obey the by-laws. He cannot allow no foreign entity or private organization to divide his organization when there are bylaws that say how they are to operate, so I really want to see how that would work. You see how far this goes? You see the minute you allow someone to take away your dignity how they will drag you down. I call out Mr. Cansino on that. I spoke to him personally about many things and I know for a fact that he has cowered under the skirts of his party and now under the skirts of ASR/B.S.I., and those are some big skirts.”

Late this evening B.S.I. informed News Five that they have also signed with the Progressive Cane Farmers Association, which includes the Guinea Grass, San Estevan and Patchakan branches, previously operating under the B.S.C.F.A. That association has committed to the delivery of three hundred thousand tons.

  1. CEO says:

All those who have signed will regret it.

All you guys who have stood up for what makes sense will get an opportunity to say “WE TOLD YOU SO”.

It’s like a one night stance; come sunrise who is on the receiving end will have regrets.
