Disbursement of Fairtrade Monies Commences

Ezequiel Cansino

And that brings us to the Fairtrade disbursement of four million dollars. Up to Friday, we understood that following warnings from that certifying body, Finance Committee Chairman, Javier Keme, had refused to sign checks. But he did, and today three branches – Guinea Grass, Patchakan and San Estevan have already received their checks. This means that as early as the end of this week, at least fifteen employees of the B.S.C.F.A. will be let go. As to how the Association will operate after that…it’s anybody’s guess.

Ezequiel Cansino, Chairman, Committee of Management, B.S.C.F.A.

“I am not…I don’t know exactly how it will operate, but I have to wait until we get to that stage and see how many projects or services we will be able to give to the cane farmers and we will decide how we will reorganize or restructure our organization.”

There has been some talk about the possibility of G.O.B. stepping in to assist the B.S.C.F.A. with Petrocaribe monies. But all it is at this point is just hopeful rhetoric with absolutely no official substance.
