BSCFA Chairman Ezequiel Cansino Finds Himself in Catch 22

Ezequiel Cansino

Ezequiel Cansino is the overall head of the largest cane-farmer branch in San Estevan, responsible for one hundred and fifty tons of cane. He is in the unenviable position of being Chairman of the BSCFA as well as branch director. And he’s torn between the two. The BSCFA has been instructed by cane-farmers to go the legal route and not to sign. But the farmers in Cansino’s branch want to deliver their cane. News Five understands that he has already been issued an ultimatum to choose sides by farmers from San Estevan. We spoke to him as he departed the courtroom today.

Ezequiel Cansino, Chairman, Committee of Management, BSCFA

“I have said long before that San Estevan is already ready and they are asking for a start of the crop. If there are any other branches that are willing to start the crop, I think that we will have no problem to sign on and maybe start the crop as soon as possible.”

“How difficult is that position that you have been put in? You are the head of the San Estevan Branch, but you are also the Chairman of the Committee of Management of the BSCFA which has been mandated by farmers to do something completely different from what you as the head of the San Estevan Branch want to do.”

“Well it is very difficult for me but at least I will try this last time to keep the BSCFA as united as possible. If we are supposed to wait the six weeks more, then I think definitely we will break up, but if the BSCFA acts as quickly as possible maybe we might have the possibility to re-unite and get the consensus of the cane-farmers to stay together and sign the agreement as soon as possible.”
