Jeanice Pitter woke up at five on Sunday morning to the smell of smoke. She quickly realized her neighbour’s house on Police Street was on fire. Recovering from the shock, she recalled the experience.

Jeanice Pitter, Witnessed Fire
“As I open my door I saw the big blaze coming from towards di door of this house over here and I hail to my husband and I call him Pitter and I was like “Pitter, Pitter fire, fire call 911”. He said he call them about three times. I get on my front porch and called to my neighbour “Fire! Fire!” and the police from over that side, Stafford, he help us call 911 to get help. The more call went in it was better; that’s what I thought. I went on the street and the fire engine they took a little bit to get here but they got here and did what they had to do and they wet down my house and thing and try to protect the fire from coming on this side then after that they finish out the house over this side. But thank goodness they save my house and I can’t complain about the service they did for me yesterday.”

The fire department was back on the scene today to look for clues into Sunday’s inferno.

Kenneth Mortis, Station Supervisor
“We observed this bungalow house fully engulfed in flames. The team got into operation, extinguishing the fire which was done in about forty-five minutes. Initially, we learnt that Justo owned the premises but the building was occupied by a male and a female. We’ve also gathered information from neighbours that prior to the fire they heard a bang.”

Jose Sanchez
“How do you rate the fire department’s performance yesterday?”

Kenneth Mortis
“Well, looking at this fire and the closest building next door, our team did a very good job. The neighbours commended them for a job well done because damage could have been worse. But luckily, we contained the fire to just this one structure.”

One of the last person’s to find out about the fire was Justo Augustine. He was not at home when the incident occurred. He lost everything.
