Orin Smith

The fire in Punta Gorda was around four-thirty on Thursday morning. And seven hours later, there would be yet another fire – this time on Elizabeth Street in Benque Viejo del Carmen. The wooden house belonging to Orfelina Valdez was gutted by the blaze, which also damaged an adjacent house belonging to Leticia Vaca. Valdez’s home which was valued at approximately twenty thousand dollars was not insured and fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the inferno, says Station Manager Smith.

As a result of that fire, a second structure, a concrete structure also received some degree of fire damage. That fire is still under investigation.”

“Where did that fire start? Was it occupied at that time? The persons living there…any idea of how the fire could have started?”

Orin Smith

“No idea yet on how the fire could have started. But the building was occupied at the time by four adults. The investigation continues into the fire.”
