Poet releases work on Belize City

Story PictureIt’s that time of the year when Belizean artists release their latest works as part of the September celebrations to observe the Battle of St. George’s Caye and Independence Day. One such example is “The Story of Belize City”, an epic poem by John Alexander Walter. Watler says the production is based on his own experiences and tells of the old capital’s history, culture, politics, and environment.

John Alexander Watler, Author, Story of Belize City
“When I wrote “The Story of Belize City”, I think that I practically lived it. So I don’t seeing myself doing lots of research. Some things you have to do lot of research for. “The Story of Belize City” was a natural for me because it was part of growing up.”

“I am always optimistic when I put something out there. I am hoping that the public will accept it. “The Story of Belize City” is not the only piece on the CD, we have “A Grand Tour of Monkey River”, and we have “While they Fight, I Write” which is a political sort of poem on the Heads of Agreement that was signed in 1981. So there are three pieces on the CD, a total of forty-five minutes on three pieces.”

“The Story of Belize City” was produced in conjunction with the National Institute of Culture and History. It is available at most record shops for twenty dollars.
