Robbers Convicted for 2011 James Bus Stickup

Samuel Bevans Jr.

Twenty-eight-year-old Samuel Bevans Junior, a resident of Belize City and a sixteen-year-old minor were both found guilty of robbery this morning when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser.  The pair was accused of robbing Everald Duncan, a driver for James Bus Line, of a money bag containing one thousand dollars.  The incident took place at the corners of Dolphin Street and Cemetery Road a little over three years ago when the duo, having boarded the bus in Belmopan, held him up at gunpoint.  They then proceeded to relieve Duncan of the monies he had collected before attempting to flee the scene.  Quick police work however, resulted in their interception a short distance away.  In court today, Magistrate Fraser found both men guilty and sentenced them to seven years each.  The minor, who did not attend the hearing, was sentenced in absentia.  He had been additionally charged with handling stolen goods.  That charge nonetheless, was subsequently withdrawn since he was convicted of robbery.  Bevans Junior was charged with a slew of related offences, including possession of a firearm and kept ammunition without a gun license.  The charges are to run concurrently.
